Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 24: Bollywood icon Aamir Khan championed the power of grassroots sport as Chief Guest at The Golf Foundation's (TGF) 18th Annual Fundraising Golf Tournament, held at the historic Bombay Presidency Golf Club.
The event marked a significant milestone in the Foundation's 26-year mission of transforming young lives through structured access to golf and long-term athlete development.
Founded in 2000 by former National champion and Arjuna Awardee Amit Luthra, The Golf Foundation was established to dismantle the perception of golf as an elite-only sport and to identify exceptional talent from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Under the leadership of CEO Angad Luthra, TGF has grown into one of India's most credible sport-led social impact institutions, with a proven track record of developing world-class athletes and responsible citizens.
The tournament brought together prominent figures from Bollywood, business, sport, and philanthropy, united by a shared commitment to opportunity, access, and sustained mentorship. Addressing the gathering, Aamir Khan underscored the transformative role of sport in society, stating "Sport teaches patience, humility, and resilience, qualities that stay with you long after the game is over. What The Golf Foundation has built over 26 years is extraordinary because it gives talented children not just access to sport, but belief in themselves and a real chance to build meaningful lives."
Proceeds from the tournament will support TGF's holistic athlete development model, encompassing professional coaching, international tournament exposure, world-class equipment, fitness and nutrition support, educational assistance, and life-skills training.
This integrated approach ensures beneficiaries grow not only as competitive athletes, but also as confident, employable individuals prepared for life beyond sport.
Over the years, TGF alumni including Shubham Jaglan, Danish Verma, Ashok Kumar, Rashid Khan, Manu Gandas, Mannat Brar, Hitaashi Bakshi,Chikkarangappa, Honey Bispya etc have represented India on global platforms, earned overseas scholarships, and established themselves as successful professionals on international tours.
Reflecting on the Foundation's journey, Amit Luthra, Founder & President of The Golf Foundation, said "When we started, the goal was simple--to ensure that talent is never limited by circumstance. Twenty-six years on, our purpose remains the same, but our responsibility is greater. We are building not just golfers, but individuals with character, discipline, and the ability to succeed in every sphere of life."
With international recognition through partnerships with The R&A Foundation and DP World, where TGF is one of only five global charity partners and the only organisation from Asia - The Golf Foundation continues to redefine what sustained sports philanthropy can achieve.
