Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 23 : 'Hum Tum' director Kunal Kohli jokingly suggested that Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe should inspect kitchen shelves and refrigerators in homes, amid the department's ongoing food safety checks across the state.
Kohli on Sunday shared an Instagram story, calling for Mundhe to carry out checks in Indian households as well. He said such a drive could find food items that have been kept at home for years but are no longer used.
Making his request in a light-hearted manner, Kohli asked Mundhe to "raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators" across Indian households. He wrote, "I request Tukaram Munde to raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators in Indian Households across the country."
Kohli then pointed out that many households may have expired food items that have been kept away for a long time. He wrote, "There will be expired items, from years ago, neatly & safely preserved, the bottles & packets wiped clean every month & put back on the shelf or refrigerator never to be used again."

Kohli further suggested that people carry out their own "Tukaram Munde cleaning" at home and check old food items stored in their kitchens.
"Chalo let's do a Tukaram Munde cleaning of our kitchen shelves & refrigerator. #tukarammunde @tukaram_ias," he added.
The Maharashtra FDA has been carrying out inspections at restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and other places serving food, including establishments supplying food through online delivery platforms. The department has also taken action in cases of food safety violations, including licence suspensions and improvement notices.
The inspections have also covered issues such as adulterated milk, food served at restaurants, junk food sold in and around schools, and the manufacture and sale of banned gutka and tobacco-containing pan masala.
