Jul 11, 2025
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 11 : Medical students of Bihar Veterinary College in Patna are observing an indefinite strike alleging that a brawl took place with locals leading to an incident of firing inside the campus last evening. One of the students was injured in the firing.
The protesting students are demanding security for the students.
A student protesting said, "The students of our college come and play here; they had a brawl with the locals on the campus, around 6 pm yesterday. This keeps happening here every other day. Firing also took place yesterday. One first-year student sustained bullet injuries in his hand. He is admitted to a hospital. So, we are observing an indefinite strike."
He also added, "Our demands are simple: that our safety should be ensured. Our seniors work here in the OPD, and there are no security arrangements for them. The female student use these roads on regular basis and there is no safety measure for them. Keeping all these issues, we are on an indefinite strike."
Rishita Ranjan, a second-year student, said, "We are on strike for the students who got shot, and the second reason is our safety. There is no safety for us girls while we are on our way to the hostel from college. The locals are always there and they click pictures, pass comments and even follow us. We want a ban on outsiders entering our college."
Another student informed, "We have submitted an application regarding this a year ago, but no action was taken. We have OPD, and we often have to travel late at night. If something happens to us, who will take responsibility?"
Crime cases are on the rise in Bihar. Earlier, a businessman, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area.
ADG Kundan Krishnan on Tuesday informed that the shooter who was involved in the murder has been arrested and the police have evidence against him.
The police official stated that they had proof against Ashok Sahu, who gave the contract to kill the victim and informed that there could be many reasons behind the incident."The facts that have come in the investigation are that the shooter has been arrested, and we have the evidence against him. We also have proof against Ashok Sahu, who gave the contract to kill the victim.... There can be many reasons behind this; many call records have to be checked", ADG Krishnan told reporters.
Additionally, DGP Vinay Kumar informed that based on clues from the crime scene and CCTV, a description was made, leading to the arrest of the accused.
