Bihar: Youth held in connection with extortion call to BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal

West Champaran (Bihar) [India], October 26 : The youth accused of making an extortion call to BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal, and threatening to kill his son, was arrested, Bettiah Superintendent of Police (SP) Shaurya Suman said on Sunday.
According to police, the accused Ashok also had a partner with whom he executed the extortion call. The police also seized the phone used to execute the crime.
SP Suman told reporters, "We unearthed the entire crime in 24 hours. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNSS, and an investigation is underway. The phone used for the extortion call has been seized. One person is in our custody."
The police official said they interrogated the owner of the phone used for the call and Ashok's brother, who led them to the miscreants.
SP Suman noted that neither of the accused is a seasoned criminal.
The police official said, "An SIT was formed to investigate... As per the technical evidence received, we found that the accused has executed the crime very intelligently. Yesterday we caught the owner of the mobile phone which was used in the crime. He told us that his phone was stolen three months ago. On further investigation, we arrested the brother of the accused, and on interrogation, it was revealed that Ashok and one partner executed this entire crime."
"They called the MP and tried to extort money. They even threatened to kill the MP's son. They are not seasoned criminals," Bettiah SP added.
Earlier, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal received extortion calls demanding a ransom of Rs 10 crore and threatening to kill his son if the demand isn't met, said a police official on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Bettiah Sadar SDPO Vivek Deep said that the police administration has started an investigation into this matter, adding that the person's identity has been established and they would be arrested soon.
Sanjay Jaiswal is a prominent leader of the BJP from Bihar and represents the Paschim Champaran constituency as a Member of Parliament (MP). He had also served as a Bihar BJP chief.
The case comes ahead of the 243-member Bihar Assembly polls in two phases on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.
