Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 31 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday organised the "Run for Unity" across various parts of Himachal Pradesh to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
In Shimla, the event was led by the BJP's Himachal Pradesh co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, who flagged off the run amid a large turnout of party workers, youth, and local residents.
Senior BJP leader and former MP Suresh Chandel highlighted that the "Run for Unity" is being celebrated nationwide to pay tribute to Sardar Patel's immense contribution in uniting the country's 565 princely states.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party and the government have decided to celebrate this event at a grand level across the nation. Everyone knows how Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played an extraordinary role in uniting 565 princely states and the entire country. He is rightly remembered as the Iron Man of India. Unfortunately, his contributions haven't received as much discussion as they deserve. That's why the Party and the Government have decided to organise multiple programmes to spread his message of unity. This event reminds us to stay alert against divisive forces and remain united as one nation," said Chandel.
Among the participants, Pyar Singh expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conceptualising such nationwide events that celebrate India's unity and inspire citizens.
"I thank our Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for organising such events across the nation to honour those who contributed to India's unity. These programs inspire every citizen to remain united and strengthen the spirit of togetherness. I feel proud to participate in this initiative and will continue encouraging others to join in this mission," said Pyar Singh.
Another participant, Karan Nanda, emphasised the link between fitness and national spirit, adding that such initiatives motivate youth to stay healthy and active.
"The slogan 'Hit Rahe, Fit Rahe' truly inspires us. Events like this 3-kilometre run should be organised regularly. It not only keeps our heart and body healthy but also strengthens the idea of fitness and unity. For the youth, it's a call to fight against drug abuse and channel energy into sports and physical fitness." Said Karan.
Addressing the media, BJP Himachal Pradesh co-incharge Sanjay Tandon recalled Sardar Patel's monumental role in unifying India and shared details about the ongoing national campaign.
"On the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, "Run for Unity" is being organised across the country from today till November 26. Sardar Patel united more than 565 princely states to form one nation, and today's India stands as a result of his vision and determination. I call upon all citizens and youth to actively participate in this national movement for unity and integrity. The Statue of Unity, the tallest in the world, was built with iron collected from villages across India, a powerful symbol of the nation's unity envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
The "Run for Unity" in Shimla concluded with enthusiastic participation and a resounding message of unity, fitness, and national pride resonating among the participants.
