New Delhi [India], August 9 : BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Saturday hit back at Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his recent comments on the Election Commission, accusing him and the Congress party of repeatedly making "baseless allegations" without evidence.
Addressing reporters, Bhatia alleged that the Congress habitually blames whenever it loses elections.
"...The Congress party is involved in scams. They lose elections. When they lose elections, they have to blame someone; sometimes, they blame EVMs. Sometimes on VVPAT. Sometimes on the Election Commission of India. Sometimes they abuse the public and make false allegations without facts. And never give a formal complaint," Bhatia said.
"If you want to seek a remedy in law, Mr Rahul Gandhi, I must remind you that our country, India, is governed by the rule of law, the Constitution of India, and there are some procedures to raise your complaint. You have to give a formal complaint. Third, when you make baseless allegations in the media, and after that, any constitutional institution asks for proof, then you refuse to give proof," the BJP leader asserted.
Another BJP MP, Deepak Prakash, slammed Rahul Gandhi, saying that the Congress leader is an "expert in lying."
"Rahul Gandhi is an expert in lying. The whole Opposition and Congress are skilled in doing fraudulent politics. It was Rahul Gandhi who initially demanded a revision of the voter list," the BJP MP told ANI outside Parliament.
Calling out the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition for being hypocritical, the BJP leader said that Gandhi should present his points to the Election Commission instead of making allegations publicly.
"Now, as the Election Commission conducts a special intensive revision to correct and identify legitimate voters, he started having problems with this. He should present his points to the Election Commission," he said.
Further hitting out at the Opposition parties for obstructing parliament, he added, "This Parliament operates on the hard-earned money of the poor, and they are working to obstruct that."
Rahul Gandhi on August 7 claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "choreographed" by the EC to benefit the BJP, which he said appeared "immune to anti-incumbency."
