Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 30 : The Assam unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday lashed out at Congress Deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of echoing Pakistan's narrative while criticising the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor.
Assam BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi said that while 189 of 193 countries expressed solidarity with India after the successful Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, Gaurav Gogoi "chose to question the strength of the Indian Army instead of praising its valour and courage."
"His words reflected a deep-rooted aversion towards his own country," Kalyan Gogoi alleged.
He further claimed that Gaurav Gogoi's opposition to the ongoing eviction drives against illegal encroachment in Assam clearly "exposes his anti-indigenous stance in favour of Bangladeshi immigrants," a matter of grave concern for the people of Assam.
The BJP spokesperson further stated that Congress, being out of power, is now hemmed in frustration on the one hand and desperation on the other, which is why it seems to have no hesitation in aligning itself with India's eternal adversary, Pakistan, just for political gains.
He added that Gaurav Gogoi's remarks in Parliament, terming Operation Sindoor a failure, had "insulted the pride and self-respect of Assam."
Quoting party MP and Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, who had participated in the Parliamentary discussion on Operation Sindoor, Kalyan Gogoi said the operation was a "resounding success" and showcased the "indomitable courage and valour" of the Indian Army.
He further stated that this victory was both invincible and unassailable, and that MP Dilip Saikia proudly declared in Parliament that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is fully capable of giving a befitting reply to anyone who dares to challenge or threaten the nation.
Saikia, in his speech, also quoted lines of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, a gesture Kalyan Gogoi said enhanced the pride and honour of Assam and the Assamese people.
Kalyan Gogoi expressed support for the ongoing eviction drive against illegal encroachments at Uriamghat in Golaghat district, saying that there has been a deliberate attempt to alter Assam's demographic pattern and undermine the rights of the indigenous population, and that the government's effort aims to restore and secure those rights.
He further said that the Congress party's disastrous decisions have put the indigenous people on the verge of losing both land and political rights. In this situation, the government's eviction drive is a necessary initiative for the protection of the native community.
Highlighting the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi described the eviction campaign as a bold step, adding that the Assam Government has already freed more than 1,20,000 bighas of land from encroachment. This eviction drive will continue till all lands are freed from illegal settlers, he added.
