New Delhi [India], June 20 : Senior Congress leader and MP KC Venugopal criticised the central government for its handling of unemployment in the country.
Addressing the media in Delhi, Venugopal highlighted the growing unemployment in the country, claiming that the joblessness rate has climbed to 5.6% and is increasing every month.
He accused the BJP-led NDA government of failing to fulfil its ambitious promise of creating two crore jobs annually.
"The unemployment rate in this country is 5.6%, and it is increasing every month. The current government came to power by promising to provide two crore jobs every year. But you can see the fate of this country. People who got employment are losing their jobs. There is no clear program to fill the vacancies.
He further lauded Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for consistently raising the issue in Parliament.
"Rahul Gandhi is the person who has been continuously raising this issue before the government for the last ten years. In his Parliament speeches, he emphasised on the situation of youth in the country. But no action is taken. The government is completely insensitive to this issue," he added.
Meanwhile, the Indian Youth Congress today organised a job fair in New Delhi to mark Rahul Gandhi's birthday.
Following the same in a post on X Venugopal said, "along with CWC Member Sh. @SachinPilot ji, visited the Mega Job Fair organised by @IYC at the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. On LOP Sh. @RahulGandhi ji's birthday, this is a crucial initiative against the Modi-made unemployment crisis faced by our country today."
"No economic vision, destruction of MSMEs to favour cronies, and tax terror causing havoc among job-creators has led to India witnessing large-scale unemployment. Even 35-40% IIT/IIM graduates are not able to find employment - which shows that the Government has no clue about how to tackle joblessness due to AI and other new-age tech innovations. On our part, we are not only raising our voice against this unemployment crisis but also stepping in to deliver where the Government has failed," he added in the post.
In a separate remark, Venugopal also expressed concern over recent claims made by former US President Donald Trump stating multiple times that he intervened for ceasefire between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor.
"We are saddened to see the situation our Foreign Secretary is facing. The US President has responded 13 times on this issue. He is constantly saying that I resolved the issue between India and Pakistan. He is saying that I used trade. Our Prime Minister is completely silent. Why is he running away from all this?," he said.
The Congress MP reiterated the party's demand for a special session of Parliament to discuss the matter and urged the Prime Minister to offer a clear explanation.
"The country wants answers. We are demanding a Parliament session, which they are not doing at all... Our Prime Minister has to give an explanation on this... We just want to know what has happened. The Parliament should get an answer," he added.
