"Congress willing to cooperate, Govt doesn't walk the talk": Gaurav Gogoi ahead of Parliament session
Dec 01, 2025
New Delhi [India], December 1 : Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday said that his party is willing to cooperate with the government over the list of agenda, but the treasury benches must also allow them to raise important matters concerning the public.
Speaking to ANI, Gogoi asserted that the government only "wants to pass their bills and has no space to accommodate the issues raised by the opposition".
"The Congress party and the opposition parties are willing to cooperate with the government on all bills that this government wants to pass in this session. Our only request is that if we are cooperating on all bills brought by the government, allow us to raise certain issues, and the government should also accommodate certain issues of the opposition in the agenda of discussion. But we are seeing that the government only wants to pass their bills and has no space to accommodate the issues raised by the opposition. That is not how parliamentary democracy functions," he said.
"If the government is willing to take up an issue of the opposition, let them publish that agenda item in the business. They say one thing, but they don't walk the talk. That is the problem," Gogoi said.
Congress MP Gogoi also moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha demanding a debate on SIR.
"I seek to move an Adjournment Motion to raise an issue of grave national concern. Vulnerabilities in our electoral rolls now threaten the very foundation of free and fair elections. At a time when faith in institutions is already strained, irregularities in voter lists raise serious questions about the commitment of authorities to uphold the democratic mandate. The credibility of our electoral system depends on modernising how voter lists are prepared," the notice read.
Congress MPs Manickam Tagore and Vijay Kumar Vasanth on Monday moved an adjournment motion in Parliament, seeking an urgent debate on the SIR exercise.
The Winter session of the Parliament is set to begin today.
The government has listed a total of 13 Bills for consideration during the Winter Session, many of which have not been examined by a Standing Committee. The Parliament is set to have 15 sittings across 19 days. Private Members' Bills are set to be taken for consideration on December 5 and 19, and Private Members' resolutions on December 12.
