Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], January 7 : Tamil Nadu's opposition party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), on Tuesday submitted a dossier to Governor R. N. Ravi, alleging that the ruling DMK has been looting the state by borrowing nearly ₹1 lakh crore every year and increasing Tamil Nadu's debt burden by over ₹4 lakh crore in the past 56 months.
According to the AIADMK, this pattern of reckless borrowing reflects the DMK government's administrative incompetence.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami said, "Except for indulging in corruption, the DMK has done nothing beneficial for the people of Tamil Nadu. The DMK has committed large-scale corruption across several government departments, and we have conveyed this to the Governor. We have submitted department-wise complaints with evidence to the Governor regarding the corruption. Governance is not functioning properly, and the law-and-order situation is in disarray. Corruption amounting to Rs 4 lakh crore has taken place across various departments over the last four and a half years."
The state opposition party alleged that widespread corruption has occurred across multiple departments under the DMK government.
According to the AIADMK, alleged irregularities amounting to ₹64,000 crore were reported in the Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply Department, ₹60,000 crore in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, ₹60,000 crore in the Highways and Minor Ports Department, ₹55,000 crore in the Electricity Department, ₹50,000 crore in the Prohibition and Excise Department, and ₹20,000 crore in the Highways Department.
The party also claimed corruption worth ₹5,000 crore each in the School Education, Social Welfare, and Agriculture departments, ₹4,000 crore in the Health Department, ₹1,500 crore in the Higher Education Department, and ₹1,000 crore in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
AIADMK said that these details have been handed over to the Governor and urged decisive action.
In the dossier, the party further alleged that the DMK has been functioning like a private corporate syndicate rather than a democratic government since assuming office in the state.
Hence, the party has urged the Tamil Nadu Governor, RN Ravi, to constitute a Special Investigation Commission headed by a retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged ₹4 lakh crore corruption scam and ensure strict legal action against all those responsible.
