New Delhi [India], July 23 : JDU MP Giridhari Yadav on Wednesday expressed strong reservations about the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar.
Speaking in Delhi, Yadav criticized the EC's handling of the process, stating that it lacks practical knowledge of Bihar's history and geography.
Speaking to ANI, Yadav pointed out that the one-month deadline for submitting documents is impractical, sharing his personal experience of taking 10 days to collect the required documents.
He highlighted the difficulties faced by migrant voters, including his own son who resides in America, in complying with the signature requirements within the given timeframe.
Yadav alleged that the SIR process has been imposed without considering the ground realities, suggesting that at least six months' time should have been given for the exercise
"Election Commission has no practical knowledge. It neither knows the history nor the geography of Bihar. It took 10 days for me to collect all the documents. My son stays in America. How will he do the signatures in just a month? This (SIR) has been imposed on us forcefully. At least 6 months' time should have been given for this... I am giving my personal opinion. It doesn't matter what the party is saying... This is the truth. If I can't say the truth, why have I become an MP?" he said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Imran Masood has also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, questioning the rapid execution of the exercise.
Speaking to ANI, Masood alleged, "What kind of formula or technique do they have that they managed to complete this in just one month? This raises suspicion. They aim to deprive tribals, Dalits, backwards classes, and Muslims of their voting rights by removing their names from voter lists."
Masood further accused certain forces of attempting to undermine democracy, stating, "They want to steer the country toward a system where 10% of the population rules, and 90% are reduced to slaves. We will fight till the end to protect democracy."
Earlier today, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm, soon after they resumed their proceedings on Wednesday amid continued protests by opposition members over several issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Opposition also protested on SIR process outside the parliament just before the commencement of session in houses.
Soon after proceedings resumed, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned within a minute after opposition members created a ruckus, demanding a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
However, the Lok Sabha held its proceedings for a few minutes amid continued uproar and sloganeering from the opposition MPs.
During this time, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the 'National Sports Governance Bill, 2025' in Lok Sabha.
Earlier in the day, both Houses had been adjourned shortly after convening due to similar disruptions.
