Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 3 : Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitendra (Jitu) Patwari on Saturday criticised the state government over Indore's contaminated water incident, accusing systemic failure and corruption, and demanded legal action against those responsible.
The Congress leader also demanded resignation of MLA from the area and state cabinet minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and warned to hold statewide agitation on January 11 in Indore city if the Minister fails to resign.
"This is the failure of the system and corruption is its main weapon. Those who have shares in contracts and tenders, belong to Bharatiya Janata Party. A case of unintentional murder should be registered against the Mayor, IMC commissioner and all those responsible for the incident. The Minister (Kailash Vijayvargiya) should resign...Rs 2 lakh is very little for compensating a life and it is injustice. The Congress party will hold a state-wide movement against this in Indore on January 11. Either Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya should resign till January 11, else Congress will protest," Patwari told reporters.
The Congress leader further emphasised that they would force the government that resignation of the minister should be taken and an FIR should be registered against Indore Mayor else, the entire Congress party would stage a protest in Indore on January 11.

Meanwhile, veteran Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Digvijaya Singh also called the incident highly shocking, saying strict action should be taken against those responsible for the incident.
"This incident is highly reprehensible and very shocking. Action should be taken against all those involved, and strict measures should be taken against the perpetrators. Additionally, the conduct of Indore mayor, councillor and other local representatives there has been condemnable," Singh told reporters.
The water contamination incident in Indore's Bhagirathpura has sparked widespread criticism as it claimed several lives and many families were affected from it.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav condemned the negligence of officials in the water contamination issue and announced the suspension of two officials following the incident.
The CM said, "The state government will not tolerate negligence in the incident that occurred in Bhaagirthpura, Indore, due to contaminated drinking water. Strict decisions are being taken in this regard."
"The corporation's Additional Commissioner Rohit Sisonia and the in-charge Superintending Engineer of PHE, Sanjeev Shrivastava have been suspended. Instructions have also been given to remove Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dilip Kumar Yadav," he added.
The Chief Minister also announced Rs 2 lakh financial assistance to the families of the deceased and free treatment to all the affected people.
