Gujarat: 70 thousand carats of diamonds worth Rs 25 crore stolen from Surat factory

Surat (Gujarat) [India], August 18 : Seventy thousand carats of diamonds worth more than Rs 25 crore have been stolen from a diamond factory in the Kapodara area here. After the theft, the accused broke the CCTV installed in the company and also took away the DVR, said Alok Kumar, DCP Surat.
According to the police, the thieves took advantage of the ongoing festivities over the last two days. They cut the locker and the safe of the diamond company named D K SONS with a gas cutter and fled with diamonds worth crores. On Monday, when work resumed, it was found that the safe had been cut.
When the matter reached the Kapodara police, they, along with the crime branch team, got to work on catching the accused.
The police are currently investigating from different angles. DCP also said that the company had recently fired two security guards, and during the holidays, no guard was on duty. The police are also interrogating the old guard. "Based on CCTV footage in the vicinity, it has been found that some people arrived by an auto rickshaw carrying a gas cutter and a cylinder," said DCP Alok. The accused have not been caught yet.
Futher investigation is going on.
Meanwhile, five men wearing helmets looted around 14.475 kilograms of gold and Rs 5.08 lakh in cash from an ESAF Small Finance Bank located in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district, a police official said on August 12.
The bank is situated in the Sihora area under the jurisdiction of Khitola police station in the district, and the incident of loot took place on the morning of August 11, he added.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Suryakant Sharma said, "A total of five men wearing helmets entered inside an ESAF Small Finance Bank located under the Khitola police station limits on Monday morning and threatened the employees to open the locker. After that, they looted 14.475 kg of gold and Rs 5,08,000 in cash and escaped from the spot."
Upon receiving the information about the incident, the police registered an FIR into the matter and began a search operation to nab the accused, he said.
The officer further added that several police teams were engaged in the search operation, police informers were also activated, and CCTV footage was being continuously examined. The police were trying to trace the accused at the earliest.
