Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 4 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday directed district officers to remain alert due to the impending monsoon season after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the next five days, warning of potential disasters.
IMD has predicted very heavy rain/heavy rain/thunderstorm accompanied by lightning/an intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places. IMD had issued an orange alert for three days in the districts of Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar.
"I held a meeting with all district officers this morning and instructed everyone to remain fully alert at this time because the IMD has issued an alert for the next 5 days regarding disasters and the monsoon. Ensure that people are provided with all essential facilities, including electricity, water, and medicines. All arrangements should be made for people living along the riverbanks in constant coordination with NDRF and SDRF," said CM Dhami.
District officers have been instructed to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to mitigate the impact of disasters. People will be provided with essential services like electricity, water, and medicines. The government will work closely with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to ensure the safety of people living along riverbanks.
Dhami also launched the Chief Minister Empowered Sisters Festival Scheme to empower women self-help groups in the state. The scheme aims to promote products made by these groups, ensuring they reach a broader market and gain popularity both nationally and globally.
The scheme focuses on promoting products created by women's self-help groups, making them more accessible and in demand. The government will ensure that these products get a good market, and proper arrangements are made for their sale.
The government will encourage and support these women in every way possible, helping them to grow and develop their businesses.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dhami reiterated the vision behind the scheme, launched in 2023, stating, "The Chief Minister Empowered Sisters Festival Scheme was launched in 2023. The main objective of this scheme was to ensure that our sisters, who are creating excellent products through various self-help groups, are making products that are in demand today in the country and the world... to ensure their products get a good market, proper arrangements are made, their goods are easily available in the market, and they can be sold. For this, we have initiated the Chief Minister Empowered Sisters Festival Scheme... Our effort will be to encourage them in every way and promote their products."
