Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 3 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Satyavathi Rathod on Tuesday backed the party's decision to suspend MLC K Kavitha, stating that former Chief Minister KCR has taken the decision in line with the party's future.
Speaking to ANI, Rathod stated that Kavitha appears to be supporting the Telangana government's decision to hand over the Justice PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram Project to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation.
Notably, the report has indicted former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, along with former ministers and officials.
"Today, the BRS Party and our leader KCR have taken a decision to suspend BRS MLC Kavitha. We are welcoming the decision because, after the Congress party came to power, they are trying to blame KCR and have placed a special commission on Kaleshwaram and have decided to hand over the case to the CBI in the Assembly. Kavitha's speech seems to be supporting it, which is unfortunate. KCR is thinking about the party's future and has suspended her. The entire people of Telangana and every BRS worker are supporting his decision," the BRS MLA said.
The Telangana government recently ordered a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project issue. A commission led by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose has already been constituted to investigate alleged irregularities, misuse of funds, and corruption in the construction of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit ridiculed the suspension of Kavitha.
"The suspension of K Kavitha -- MLC, daughter of party supremo K Chandrashekar Rao, and accused in the Delhi Excise Policy scam -- is just the newest act in this carefully-scripted melodrama," the party said in a release.
According to the release, BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge, NV Subash, said the rift, which began as a family spat, has now spiralled into a full-blown political tamasha (drama).
"The moment Congress came back to power under Revanth Reddy, the script changed. Threats of prosecuting KCR and KTR in the phone-tapping case on one side, and Kavitha fanning the flames of discord within her own party on the other -- this is no less than a serial fit for prime time," he quipped.
"Kavitha, once jailed and now out on bail in the multi-crore liquor scam, allegedly trained her guns at her father's own confidantes. The family feud became murkier when she accused her cousin and former Irrigation Minister, T. Harish Rao, of colluding with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and benefiting at KCR's expense," Subhash said, as per the release.
