New Delhi [India], September 30 : Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused Congress of taxing and raising prices in Karnataka on Tuesday.
The BJP spokesperson described the Congress government as a 'Khata khat loot and jhooth' government and claimed that the ruling government in Karnataka harbours an anti-Hindu mindset.
According to Poonawala, the Congress government increased KSRTC bus fares during the Dasara festival on the Bengaluru-Mysuru route, which Hindus predominantly use.
"The Congress govt in Karnataka is a 'Khata khat loot and jhooth' government. It only taxes and increases prices. It has an anti-Hindu mindset. At the time of the Dasara festival, when the Bengaluru-Mysuru route is used the most by Hindus, they are raising KSRTC bus fares. This shows how they want to loot the common people and those celebrating Dasara, and then they use it to fill their own pockets, and money is stolen through various scams and sent to 10, Janpath," Poonawala told ANI.
Additionally, the BJP spokesperson severely criticised the Karnataka government for not providing adequate infrastructure to the state and accused the government of failing to repair the potholes on roads.
Commenting on the death of a girl allegedly due to a pothole, he said, "It is not 'Mohabaat ki Dukan' but 'Maut ka samaan and maut ki dukaan' by the Congress party...They have raised the prices, and in return, Karnataka has not received good infrastructure. All they have given is pothole-filled roads. It is a shocking incident where a girl has lost her life while avoiding a pothole, and a truck ran over her...When the government is asked about potholes, DK Shivakumar says, "Even God can't fix potholes"....Karnataka Congress is a pothole in governance and corruption..." added Poonawala.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old student died after a tipper truck crushed her while trying to avoid a pothole near Budigere Cross in Bengaluru on Tuesday, said the police. The accident occured under the jurisdiction of Avalahalli Traffic Police Station in Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) Road. The victim is identified as Tanushree.
As a result, there has been growing criticism against the State government over the potholes on roads in Bangalore. While the Ministers in the State say that the issue was blown out of proportion and blame the previous BJP government for the situation, the Opposition parties target the Congress government for its "administrative failures.
Earlier, blaming the previous BJP government's misrule for potholes in Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that a grant of Rs 750 crore has been given to fill up potholes in the city.
Speaking to reporters after paying his last respects to well-known author S L Bhyarappa's mortal remains at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Shivakumar said, "We are committed to fixing the pothole issue in Bengaluru. The CM has released a grant of Rs 750 crore for this purpose."
