New Delhi [India], July 27 : Union Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the convocation ceremony of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya in Vadodara, Gujarat, through video conferencing on Sunday, and said that the university is a living example of both speed and power.
Speaking about the significance of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Singh said the institution was not a traditional university but "an idea, a motion, a mission."
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, established in 2022 as a Central university under the Ministry of Railways, is dedicated to creating world-class talent in the logistics and transportation sectors.
He stated, "This university is a living example of both speed and power. It places special emphasis on purely applied knowledge. It is not only book knowledge but solutions to real problems that are taught."
He praised the university for its focus on real-world applications in areas like railways, engineering, logistics, artificial intelligence, and data science. He expressed confidence that students from the university would bring innovation and purpose to their work.
"Today, all of you students are obtaining a degree from a dynamic university, one of the most prestigious study centres in the country in terms of logistics," he said.
On the National Logistics Policy, Raksha Mantri said that the initiative aims to create an integrated, efficient, and cost-effective logistics network that not only reduces logistics cost but also encourages data-driven decision-making. "The policy aims to bring down the current 13-14 per cent logistics cost to the level of developed countries. This will increase the competitiveness of Indian products in domestic and global markets. Reduction in logistics cost will increase efficiency in all sectors and will boost value addition and enterprise growth," he added.
Singh highlighted the critical role logistics played during the Covid-19 pandemic, saying, "Millions of vaccines reached every corner of the country, oxygen cylinders arrived in hospitals on time, and medical teams were transported via the Air Transport Corridor. All this was possible only through better logistics."
He highlighted the university's unique role in shaping India's logistics future and praised Gujarat's historic contributions to the nation's growth.
Singh called Gujarat a land of great thinkers and reformers. "This is the land where Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati lit the example of social awakening, where Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel worked to unite the country. And in this Gujarat, we got a visionary leader like Mr. Narendra Modi, who succeeded in creating a new definition of development and national interest in the politics of this country," he said.
He said Vadodara was not just a city but "a wonderful confluence of knowledge, culture, and technology."
The convocation was attended by faculty, students, and dignitaries from across the logistics and infrastructure sectors.
