Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], October 6 : Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule conducted a raid on the Sub-Registrar's office in Nagpur on Monday in response to numerous complaints regarding officials demanding bribes from citizens.
Despite the implementation of a fully digitised registration process, complaints indicated that certain officials were engaging in corrupt practices by extorting money.
During the raid, Minister Bawankule uncovered cash hidden in an official's desk drawer, raising serious concerns about ongoing malpractices.
The police have been called in to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Minister Bawankule addressed the public, urging citizens to come forward with complaints if they encounter any demands for bribes. "We are committed to rooting out corruption and ensuring transparency in all government processes," he stated. "I encourage the public to report any such misconduct directly to the authorities without hesitation."
The Minister said that the Maharashtra government remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption. An investigation is underway, and further updates are awaited.
Earlier, Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Tuesday that the BJP's stand has been that the Maratha community should receive reservations.
"Mumbai is a fast-paced city, so keeping in mind that people should not face inconvenience and law and order should not be disturbed, whatever directions have been given, I believe action is being taken accordingly. From the beginning, the BJP's stand has been that the Maratha community should get reservations, and to make that possible, the Devendra Fadnavis government made serious efforts," Bawankule told reporters.
"As you all know, through EWS, a 10% reservation was also given... The Devendra Fadnavis government did everything possible to deliver justice to the Maratha community and to strengthen them. The Maratha community has been most empowered under the leadership of PM Modi, during the tenure of CM Fadnavis and CM Eknath Shinde government...," he further said.
