Patna (Bihar) [India], July 5 : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Saturday hit out at the Bihar government over the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka and pointed out that the State government has "no authority"
The incident evoked a sharp reaction from the opposition party, with Congress going on to say that there is 'Gundaraj' in Bihar. The murder came months ahead of the assembly elections due later in the year.
The Bihar Police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder case, to be headed by the Patna Central SP.
The incident took place on July 4
Superintendent of Police (SP), Patna, Diksha told ANI on Saturday, "On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka has been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan..."
"What would Khemka's family think? This incident occurred late at night. Is there anything called government here? I will not ask this question to anyone now. The murderers believe that the government is theirs. They can do whatever they want, whenever they want; the state government has no authority... They should be ashamed. What have they done to Bihar...," Jha told ANI.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Premchand Mishra hit out at the state government and said that there is "gundaraj" in Bihar. Mishra stated that such incidents are happening repeatedly and the state government have failed to protect the lives of people.
"There is 'Gundaraj' in Bihar. A criminal commits a crime, flees, and the police continue to watch. In the capital, Patna, where there are so many security forces, an eminent businessman gets murdered, and the people of the government are sitting there, claiming that this is the rule of law. This is not the law. Nitish Kumar and the BJP government are failing to protect the lives and property of the people. Such incidents are happening repeatedly", Prem Chand Mishra told ANI.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav alleged that hundreds of businessmen were being killed in Bihar, but it couldn't be called "Jungle Raj."
Yadav, a former Deputy Chief Minister, also raised questions over the law and order situation and said, "A few steps away from the police station in Patna, a prominent Bihar businessman was shot dead!"
"Hundreds of businessmen are being murdered in Bihar every month, but we can't call it jungle raj? Because this is what the scriptures call media management, perception management, and image management", Tejashwi Yadav wrote on 'X' in Hindi.
