Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 6 : Amid a political row sparked over the murder of a businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area, BJP leader Tarun Chugh on Sunday said that the NDA government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is committed to maintaining law and order.
His remarks follow the incident where businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead near the main gate of his residence in Patna's Gandhi Maidan area.
Chugh added that the culprits of the case will not be spared.
"The NDA government, led by Nitish Kumar, is committed to maintaining law and order there. No guilty person will be spared..." the BJP leader told ANI.
Chugh targeted the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), saying, "... Even today, some people are running the jungle raj that was operated by Lalu Prasad Yadav. This will not be tolerated. Whenever Bihar is mentioned, the people of Bihar tremble, remembering the corruption and jungle raj run by Lalu Yadav."
On July 4, businessman Gopal Khemka was allegedly shot dead near his residence in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
Following the incident, Bihar Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder case.
The murder of the businessman has evoked sharp political reactions from the opposition parties and put the spotlight back on the law and order situation in the State, which is going to the polls in the next few months.
Earlier today, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi launched an all-out attack on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar, alleging that Bihar has become "crime-capital" of India.
In a post on social media platform X in hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, "The brazen murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna has once again proven - the BJP and Nitish Kumar together have turned Bihar into "India's crime capital." Today, Bihar lives in the shadow of loot, gunfire, and murder. Crime has become the 'new normal' here - and the government is utterly ineffective"
Congress leader Pawan Khera came down heavily on the NDA government in Bihar over the prevailing law and order situation in the state, saying that safety has become a "myth" under their rule.
On Saturday, Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor raised concerns over the rising crime incidents in Bihar following the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka.
"The death of businessman Gopal Khemka is very saddening. He is a big name, so it got government attention, but several who are poor are being murdered every day here. Extortion, murder, and incidents of loot are common in Bihar every day...Five girls have been raped in the last one month. No one is concerned about Bihar. The people of Bihar are dying, and these people are busy fooling the public," Prashant Kishor said.
