New Delhi [India], October 16 : National Students' Union of India (NSUI) national president Vinod Jakhar on Friday claimed that he and several party workers had been detained at different police stations in Delhi.
NSUI president alleged police brutality against women and said the detention of party workers would not deter them from raising their voice.
He accused the Centre of dictatorship, saying his organisation would continue to protest against the alleged police brutality and stand up against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In a post on X, Jakhar shared a video with a caption, “The police cannot suppress our voice by detaining us. We are not afraid, nor will we back down from our questions. We will fight strongly against the police brutality on women!”

“Delhi Police has detained us at the Dwarka Sector-23 Police Station. We were brought to the police station around 12:00 PM. A long time has passed. NSUI workers in several other police stations have also been arrested and detained. Along with this, this morning, female colleagues who faced brutality by the police were going on against them, in which some MPs, our Youth Congress colleagues, Sewa Dal colleagues, our Congress party people, many people were there; they have also been detained,” he said.
“I will say, how many people will you detain? For how long will you detain them? We are standing against your brutality, against your dictatorship, to save Gyanesh Kumar. Regarding the brutality that is going on, regarding that we are constantly standing against you,” Jakhar further said.
A day earlier, Delhi Police detained NSUI workers who were staging a protest outside Parliament Street Police Station over the alleged assault on NSUI activists and the alleged failure to register an FIR in the matter.
During the protest on October 13, student activists alleged that they were assaulted during detention following protests against the Election Commission.
Jakhar's remarks come ahead of a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest called by CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke at Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday.
