Passenger injured on Humsafar Express receives swift medical aid at Kanpur Station

Dec 03, 2025

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 3 : A passenger aboard the Humsafar Express (12349) travelling from Delhi to Prayagraj received timely medical assistance after sustaining a hand injury during the journey.
The incident occurred in the early hours of December 2, when the passenger, seated in the 3A coach, accidentally got their hand caught in the automatic door of the air-conditioned compartment. The impact caused bleeding, prompting an urgent call for help.
At around 4:09 AM, an emergency request was logged through the Rail Madad platform, Indian Railways' dedicated system for real-time passenger support.
Responding without delay, the control office swiftly coordinated with officials at Kanpur Central Station to ensure that medical personnel were ready before the train reached the station.
As the train halted at Kanpur, a doctor and medical team were already positioned on the platform to receive the injured passenger. The team promptly assessed the wound, cleaned it thoroughly, and applied a dressing to prevent further bleeding. Antiseptic medication was administered to reduce the risk of infection, offering relief and stabilising the passenger.
Thanks to the quick intervention, the situation was effectively brought under control without disrupting the journey. Notably, an OTP-based Tatkal reservation system was proposed by the railways to make the facility more convenient for common users. First, the Railways introduced Aadhaar-based authentication for online Tatkal ticketing in July 2025. Second, an OTP-based online reservation system for all general reservations on the first day of booking was implemented in October 2025.
Both initiatives have been successfully adopted by common users, ensuring greater transparency and convenience in the reservation process. The Railways initiated a pilot project for an OTP-based Tatkal reservation system for tickets booked at reservation counters on 17 November 2025. As of now, the system has been extended to a total of 52 trains.
Under this system, when booking a Tatkal ticket at a reservation counter, the passenger receives an OTP on the mobile number provided in the reservation form. The ticket is confirmed only after successful OTP verification. Within the next few days, this OTP-based Tatkal reservation system at counters will be implemented for all remaining trains.
