"PM Modi should hold press conference...": CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat on US President Trump's remark

New Delhi [India], June 19 : CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not "addressing" US President Donald Trump's claims about 'brokering' a deal between India and Pakistan.
"Donald Trump has claimed that the two nuclear powers have decided to strike a deal with each other. He stated that both are very smart, have backed off from nuclear power, and questioned why the press is not giving him credit. Trump is asserting that he played a role in pushing back these two nuclear powers. He is repeating this claim again and again. Hence, we have a question: Trump is making public statements repeatedly, so why is Modi Ji speaking only on the basis of his telephonic conversation? Why doesn't Modi Ji give a clear statement by holding a press conference in public? PM Modi should hold a press conference and give a statement on it," Karat told ANI.
"Why is PM Modi not giving a statement as US President Donald Trump is giving? Is PM Modi afraid to tell the truth not to anger Trump?" she asked.
Earlier, Trump once again claimed credit for stopping a "war" between India and Pakistan, while praising both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir for their roles in de-escalating tensions in May.
"Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India and also with Pakistan... I am so happy. Two very smart people decided not to keep going with the war. Those are two big nuclear powers. I was honoured to meet him today," said Trump.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Trump late on Tuesday that the ce was achieved through talks between the Indian and Pakistani militaries and not US mediation, India's foreign secretary Vikram Misri said earlier on Wednesday.
