Rain lashes parts of Delhi, brings respite from heat

New Delhi [India], June 28 : Several parts of the national capital witnessed sudden showers on Saturday, offering a welcome respite from the sweltering heat that had gripped the city over the past few days.
The rain brought down temperatures noticeably across several areas.
"Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied with moderate thunderstorm and lightning (40-60 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at few places of Delhi ( Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Hauzkhas, Malviyanagar, Kalkaji, Mahrauli, Tughlakabad, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, Deramandi), NCR ( Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh) Jind, Hansi, Meham, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, Palwal (Haryana) Sikandrabad, Nandgaon, Barsana, Agra (U.P.) Nagar, Deeg (Rajasthan)," IMD posted on X.
"Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning (30-50 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at many places of Delhi ( Mundaka, Pashchim Vihar, Rajauri Garden, Patel Nagar, Budha Jayanti Park, President House, Rajeev chauk, ITO, Delhi Cantt, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, Nehru Stadium, R K Puram, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar)," it added.
The India IMD had earlier predicted its arrival by Thursday, but the rains remain largely absent. The IMD on Saturday said that the conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon over remaining parts of the country during next two days.
The southwest monsoon has yet to cover Delhi, some parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh.
