Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 11 : Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari offered prayers at the historic Shri Rajrajeshwar Shiva Temple, located within the City Palace in Jaipur, marking the auspicious beginning of the holy month of 'Sawan'.
On the occasion, she performed Jal and Dugdha Abhishek (ritual bathing with water and milk) of Lord Shiva and prayed for the peace, prosperity and well-being of the people of the state. 'Sawan' is the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, and is considered one of the holiest months in Hinduism.
The temple reverberated with Vedic chants in the early morning as the Deputy CM, in keeping with traditional rituals, offered her prayers with deep devotion. She performed Rudrabhishek of the Shiva Linga and later joined in the aarti, accompanied by the sounds of conch shells, bells, and hymns. Several women devotees and young girls attended the prayer ceremony. The fragrance of flowers, incense, and the rhythmic chanting of mantras further enriched the spiritual atmosphere.
Speaking on the occasion, Dy. CM Diya Kumari said, "The month of Sawan is a symbol of spiritual energy, devotion and inner reflection. I have prayed at the feet of Lord Shiva for the continued well-being, good health and prosperity of all residents of Rajasthan."
She extended her heartfelt wishes to the people of the state for the holy month of Sawan, urging them to engage in both devotion and acts of compassion during this sacred period.
'Sawan' holds a special place in Hindu mythology. Devotees undertake fasts and offer prayers to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva during this period. The chanting of Shiva mantras, singing bhajans (devotional songs), and performing Rudrabhishek (ceremonial bathing of Shiva Lingam with holy substances) are common practices observed with fervour across households and temples during 'Sawan' month.
Early in the morning today, devotees also flocked to Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar temple to offer prayers on the first day of the 'Sawan' month. To mark the occasion,' Rudrabhishek' was performed at the temple.
This year, Sawan month commences from July 11 and will conclude on August 9.
