Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) [India], July 5 : Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Jaisalmer on Saturday night, uprooting solar panels installed on the rooftop of a hotel, which crashed onto a road below and seriously injured a man and his two grandchildren travelling on a scooter.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Gandhi Colony area when strong winds dislodged the solar panels from the hotel rooftop. The panels fell on a scooter carrying Subhash Khatri (60) and his grandsons, Shyam (5) and Rishabh (2).
All three sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the district hospital's trauma centre. After receiving primary treatment, they were referred to a higher medical centre in Jodhpur due to the severity of their injuries.
The incident also claimed the life of a cow, which was struck by the falling solar panels.
Eyewitnesses said the strong winds caused the solar panels and other debris to fall onto the road, damaging several vehicles and leading to a traffic jam in the area.
Kotwali Police Station SHO Surjaram said police personnel reached the spot immediately, controlled the crowd and shifted the injured to the hospital.
Following the incident, family members expressed anger over the alleged non-availability of a government ambulance.

Speaking to ANI, Dr. Bhanwarlal, district hospital, said three patients were brought in after a solar panel structure fell on them.
"Three patients were brought in after a solar panel structure fell on them. There were two children and one adult male. The children had head injuries; we provided initial treatment and bandaged them before referring them to another facility. The man was intubated and referred as well; his condition is serious," he said.
He further dismissed the claims that no doctors were available.
"Any claims that no doctors were available are baseless. The previous doctor's shift ended at 9 PM, and I arrived exactly at that time to take over," he said.
Congress district president Amardeen Fakir later also reached the spot and helped arrange a private ambulance to shift the injured to Jodhpur. He alleged that when the patients were brought to the trauma centre, there was no electricity.

"The victims were severely injured. When they were brought to the trauma center, there was no electricity, which is unfortunately a common occurrence here. Local villagers often manage, but it's very difficult for city residents. When we asked for a compounder to assist the serious patients, we were told some had been transferred, some were on leave, and others weren't answering their phones. It's shameful that in such a critical situation, patients had to wait for two hours without proper assistance," he told ANI.
Meanwhile, the first spell of the southwest monsoon also arrived in Jaisalmer on Saturday night. Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds lashed the district headquarters as well as Pokaran, Ramdevra, Chandhan, Baroda village and adjoining areas.

The rainfall brought much-needed relief from the prolonged heat and humidity prevailing in the district. According to officials, Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 42.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 29.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday before the weather changed.
