Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], January 30 : Telangana Police Officers' Association State President Gopireddy Yedula condemned BRS MLA Padi Kaushilk Reddy's remarks made against police officials during the Veena Vanka Mini Sammakka Saralamma Jathara.
In his statement, the state President remarked that the MLA's alleged rude conduct toward female police officers, which resulted in the disruption of law and order, is reprehensible.
"We strongly condemn the indecent remarks made by the MLA against the police who were implementing the orders of the Honorable High Court. It is unfortunate that, despite the election code being in effect, he not only went in groups but also, as a responsible public representative, attempted to violate court orders and disrupt law and order. Even though the police officers fully explained the law and order situation and the court orders to the MLA, his inappropriate behaviour and rude conduct towards female police officers, thus disrupting law and order, is reprehensible," said Yedula.
The Association President also asserted that all supporters of democracy should condemn the disruption of law and order merely for publicity.
"It is highly reprehensible that a responsible MLA would bring up the religion of the police officers. Furthermore, the remarks he made, referring to the Karimnagar Police Commissioner who was not even present there, and bringing up his religion, are utterly despicable. All democrats should condemn the creation of controversies and disruption of law and order merely for publicity, forgetting the responsibility of being a public representative. We appeal to the public representatives to be more respectful of their responsibilities," added Yedula.
He further declared that this incident is an act that undermines the morale of the police force. He emphasised that the police department will deal with such actions severely.
"No one can ignore the reputation of the Telangana Police, who are performing their duties with commitment towards the people and maintaining law and order. Making religious comments about such a system is highly reprehensible. We consider this incident an act that undermines the morale of the police force. It should be noted that the police department will deal with such actions severely. We will initiate action according to the law. We demand that MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy immediately withdraw his inappropriate and irrelevant remarks and apologize to the police officers," said Yedula.
Earlier, BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy claimed that he, along with his wife and daughter were detained in Karimnagar district on Friday following an alleged scuffle that broke out near the Sammakka Sarakka temple.
Reacting strongly to the incident, Padi Kaushik Reddy accused senior police officials of overacting and said he would pursue the matter until "justice is served."
Speaking to the media, the BRS MLA said, "The Karimnagar Commissioner of Police, Huzurabad ACP, and Jammikunta Rural CI overacted. I've moved a privilege motion and submitted it to Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, who responded positively and endorsed it. He instructed officials to put up the file, saying there'll be serious action against them."
He further added, "We won't spare any official until justice is served."
Shalini Reddy, wife of Padi Kaushik Reddy, said, "We came here to offer prayers to Sammakka Sarakka, but the police detained me, my husband, and daughter."
