New Delhi [India], July 27 : Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Sunday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, citing former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's move to set up a four-member Kargil Review Committee following the 1999 Kargil War.
Ahead of the 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor in the Parliament, Jairam Ramesh said that it was a different Prime Minister and a different BJP during the Kargil war.
The Congress MP wrote on X, "...It bears recall that on July 30, 1999, three days after the India-Pakistan war ended, the Vajpayee Govt set up a four-member Kargil Review Committee. This was chaired by K. Subrahmanyam, whose son is now India's External Affairs Minister. The Committee submitted its report 'From Suprise to Reckoning' on Dec 15, 1999. It was tabled in Parliament with suitable redactions on Feb 23, 2000. It was also discussed. But that was a different PM, a different BJP as ruling party, and a different political climate."
Sharing an X post, the Congress leader said that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack have not been brought to justice.
"The Lok Sabha is scheduled to begin a 16-hour debate on Pahalgam-Op Sindoor tomorrow and the Rajya Sabha is set to do so day after tomorrow. The INC had been demanding a special two-day session of Parliament immediately after Operation Sindoor was abruptly halted. That demand was ignored. Nevertheless, better late than never. Let us recapitulate the events that form the backdrop to this debate. The Pahalgam terror attacks took place on April 22, 2025. The terrorists directly responsible have still not been brought to justice. Reportedly they were involved in earlier terror attacks in Poonch (Dec 2023) and Gangagir and Gulmarg (Oct 2024)," Jairam Ramesh wrote.
Further, he took a jibe at PM Modi for not chairing the all-party meeting after the terror attack.
He wrote, "At the request of the INC, an all-party meeting was held and chaired - not by the PM as demanded but by the Raksha Mantri - on April 22, 2025 where questions on intelligence lapses were raised."
Jairam Ramesh mentioned that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, claimed tactical mistakes were made in the first two days of Operation Sindoor, while the Defence Attache in Indonesia, Group Captain Shiv Kumar, highlighted that political decisions were hampering military operations.
"On May 30th, 2025, the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan made significant revelations on tactical mistakes in the first two days of Op Sindoor. These revelations were made in Singapore. On June 29, 2025, the Indian Defence Attache in Indonesia, Group Captain Shiv Kumar, said that political decisions hampered military operations during Operation Sindoor and also appeared to have indicated the extent of our aircraft losses," the X post read.
Further, the Congress MP stated that the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Rahul R Singh's claim regarding China's involvement during Operation Sindoor highlights a scenario that the public was unaware of.
"On July 4, 2025, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, revealed that India had actually contended and battled China during Op Sindoor, both in terms of hardware and software. This was a completely new scenario," he wrote.
"On July 14, 2025, the LG of J&K Manoj Sinha publicly admitted that the Pahalgam terror attacks were undoubtedly a security failure," Ramesh added.
Jairam Ramesh slammed the Centre over US President Donald Trump, claiming to have brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and then hosting Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir for lunch.
"Since May 10th, President Trump has claimed 26 times that he stopped Op Sindoor by threatening to cut off trade with India, and claimed that five fighter jets may have been shot down. He has hosted the Pakistan Army Chief for lunch which has never been done before. The US Central Command Chief, Gen. Michael Kurilla, had called Pakistan a phenomenal partner in counter-terrorism operations. And just day before yesterday, the US Secretary lauded Pakistan in his meeting with its Deputy PM," he wrote.
Ramesh added, "The outlandish claims made by sections of the India media during Op Sindoor - with instigation by the PM's media managers - led to a mockery of whatever serious narrative was sought to be built up. In any case this narrative clearly had more takers at home than in countries where an outreach took place"
Jairam Ramesh's remarks come amid Congress' recurring jibe over the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
Earlier on Saturday, he slammed the Centre over US President Donald Trump "for the 26th time", claiming to have brokered the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
Sharing President Trump's social media post, Ramesh mentioned that while mediating between Cambodia and Thailand, Trump again claimed that the US arbitrated between India and Pakistan.
"President Trump is now mediating between Cambodia and Thailand and is using the opportunity to make the claim - for the 26th time - on a US-brokered ceasefire between India and Pakistan," Jairam Ramesh wrote.
