TVK Vijay slams state govt over Tiruttani assault, flags youth safety concerns

Dec 30, 2025

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], December 30 : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Tuesday strongly criticised the Tamil Nadu government over the recent assault on a youth aboard a train travelling from Chennai to Tiruttani, saying the incident reflected the administration's failure to safeguard young people and curb rising drug abuse.
The TVK chief's post came after police said that on December 27, four juveniles attacked a youth from Odisha with sickles near the Old Railway Quarters in Tiruttani and filmed the assault. The accused have been proceeded against under the Juvenile Justice Act, while authorities said that law and order remain under control and that adequate safety measures are in place for migrant workers.
In a post on X, Vijay described the incident as a "dangerous future" that exposed the administration's failure to guide youth away from destructive paths and curb narcotics circulation.

"The incident in which a few young men brutally assaulted another youth on a train traveling from Chennai to Thiruthani yesterday has instilled among the people both the fear and shock of what kind of dangerous future Tamil Nadu is heading toward. The government has not detected and prevented in advance the young men from veering onto the wrong path. This incident highlights the ruling government's indifference and lack of responsibility, as if to say, "What does it matter to us if the youth go astray and are ruined?," he said.
He alleged that the administration had shown indifference towards the growing challenges faced by the youth, including drug abuse, lack of educational opportunities, unemployment, and the absence of support for innovation and entrepreneurship.
"Law and order have deteriorated, and the future of the youth is being destroyed by narcotics. There are no programs in Tamil Nadu to guide the youth onto the right path. There is no conducive environment for the youth to pursue education properly. There are no job opportunities commensurate with their qualifications. There is no innovation. There is no encouragement for new ventures. Without creating and providing any of these, for whose sake are we running this government? I urge this government of empty theatrics to at least take the necessary actions in the remaining tenure to completely curb the circulation of narcotics," the post added on X.
Tiruvallur district police acted swiftly, apprehending all four juvenile school dropouts from areas near Tiruttani on December 28 using the viral video and public tips.
