Patna (Bihar) [India], July 24 : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Bhai Virendra on Thursday refused to apologise over the remarks he made during a discussion in the Assembly on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
The Bihar legislative assembly witnessed a heated exchange during the monsoon session when RJD MLA Bhai Virendra made a statement that was deemed objectionable by some members of the House on Wednesday.
Speaking to ANI, Bhair Virendra said, "Apologise to whom? To those who do Gunda Raaj? Some people in the Assembly want to suppress the voice of Dalits, minorities, and backwards classes. We will not let this happen. I belong to Maner, and people there are always ready to fight. I will never apologise for my statement."
The altercation on Wednesday began when Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav raised concerns over the SIR process, alleging it created fear among migrant voters.
Condemning Virendra's statement, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said that RJD MLA wants to establish 'Gunda Raj' through such remarks on the floor of the House.
"CM tried to explain to them that only 2 days are left, so the questions of public interest should be allowed to be raised peacefully... But their leader, Bhai Virendra, said Does the House belong to anyone's father? In this way, he wants to establish the Gunda Raaj inside the House. They have forgotten that this is not the 90s... We told them to apologise for their language... If they do not apologise, then such people have no right to sit in the House," Deputy CM said.
Responding to the accusations, RJD MLA Bhai Virendra stood firm and said that there was nothing unparliamentary about the remarks he made on the floor.
"Whatever I have said, I stand by it. I have said that the House is nobody's property. What was wrong with what I said? This is parliamentary language. After this, the ministers started abusing. What should I apologise for? What wrong have I done?... Is Vijay Sinha our leader? Is he our master? They were born in front of me," Virendra asserted.
