Tadepalli (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 24 : Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Legal Cell on Wednesday strongly condemned the continued alleged illegal detentions of social media activists by the Andhra Pradesh police, despite repeated warnings from the High Court, said a statement from M Manohar Reddy, President of YSRCP Legal Cell.
"The High Court has severely criticised the police in the case of activist Savindra and ordered his immediate release. However, even as the court was questioning the police excesses, another activist, Tarak Pratap Reddy, was illegally picked up, leaving his family in deep distress as his whereabouts remain unknown," Manohar Reddy said, as per the release.
"Similarly, in Anantapur district, activist Sai Bhargav was forcefully taken from his home and shifted to Rapthadu Police Station without due process. In just three days, three different social media activists have faced unlawful detention and harassment, proving that the police are acting with deliberate disregard for constitutional rights and judicial authority," he said.
The statement further stated that the YSRCP Legal Cell demanded that the state government immediately put an end to these illegal actions, respect the constitutional rights of citizens, and ensure that the police act within the framework of law.
"We also demand strict accountability for officers who are willfully violating the orders of the High Court," it added.
Meanwhile, yesterday, in a decisive effort to shield the sanctity of Tirumala Temple from political interference, Tirupati Lok Sabha MP Maddila Gurumoorthy penned urgent letters to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Justice of India Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai. The appeals seek a CBI inquiry and the formation of a Judicial Commission headed by a sitting Supreme Court judge, respectively, to investigate the escalating Tirumala Parakamani controversy.
Gurumoorthy's letters condemn the Naidu government's unsubstantiated allegations of theft and misuse of temple offerings as a blatant political vendetta. "These claims lack credible evidence and due process, tarnishing the devotion of 1.2 billion Hindus worldwide who view Tirumala as the spiritual heart of Lord Venkateswara," he stated.
The Parakamani, symbolising collective faith and offerings from millions of pilgrims, must not be weaponised for partisan gain, he emphasised, warning that such actions erode communal harmony and public trust in religious institutions. Gurumoorthy argued that only an impartial central probe can uncover the truth and restore devotees' confidence.
The letters call for swift action to prevent further damage to religious sentiments and democratic governance.
