Activist flags concern over deforestation, disasters and neglect in PoGB

Jun 24, 2026

PoGB, 24 June 2026: - Washington-based political activist Senge Sering has blamed Pakistan's alleged negligence for the worsening ecological crisis in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan. His remarks come as Pakistan's disaster authority issued fresh landslide and flood warnings following recent flooding in Hunza and Chilas. Sering alleged that deforestation, illegal logging, poor governance, glacier retreat and unchecked resource exploitation are increasing the region's vulnerability to natural disasters. The activist alleged that Pakistan lacks both the capacity and commitment to address mounting environmental challenges in PoGB, leaving the region exposed to more frequent climate-related disasters. The remarks highlight growing concerns over environmental degradation and disaster preparedness in the region.
