Activist questions lack of international attention to protests in PoJK

Aug 26, 2026

PoJK, 26 August 2026: Tensions continue to escalate in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with activists accusing Pakistani authorities of intensifying their crackdown on protesters. PoJK activist Amjad Ayub Mirza is calling for greater international scrutiny of developments in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Mirza says the way forward, in his view, lies in political engagement rather than treating the protests solely as a law-and-order issue. Mirza says authorities in Islamabad should not view the protests simply as a law-and-order challenge. He argues that restrictions on the internet or the use of force cannot provide a lasting solution, and that political engagement is required. He says the grievances of people in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir should be viewed independently, and primarily from a humanitarian perspective.
