Birbhum violence: NHRC takes suo motu cognizance, seeks report from West Bengal govt within four weeks

New Delhi, Mar 25 (ANI): Following the violence in Birbhum district of West Bengal which killed 8 persons on March 22, National Human Rights Commission has taken a suo moto cognizance in the incident and sought report from Mamata Banerjee government within 4 days. Speaking to ANI, NHRC Deputy Director (Media and Communications) Jaimini Kumar Srivastava on March 24 said, “Taking suo motu cognizance of the media report published in the incident of violence in Birbhum, through the Chief Secretary and the DGP, sent a notice to the Government of West Bengal and sought a report. Time given for 4 weeks. After listening to all the parties, the commission will give recommendations.”
