Centre’s appeal to unify Civic Bodies an attempt to delay MCD elections: Arvind Kejriwal
Mar 11, 2022
New Delhi, Mar 11 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 11 claimed that Central Government planning for unifying 3 Civic Bodies is an excuse to postpone Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. He also added that cancelling elections weakens the role of State Election Commission and the Country. Addressing a Press Conference, he said, “Date for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls was to be announced at 5 pm on March 9 but the same day an hour ago, Centre wrote to State Election Commission to combine all 3 civic bodies into one, and that polls should be delayed. Election Commission (EC) agreed to do so. Not okay if polls are cancelled, weakens EC role.” “Main motive wasn't the unification of all 3 MCDs. Had they wanted, they would have done it in last 7 years. Motive was to postpone Polls. I appeal to the Prime Minister with folded hands that if we force EC to cancel elections, it weakens it and the country. We have to protect the nation,” CM Kejriwal added.
