Community-driven ‘Jal Mandir Abhiyan’ brings water relief to Gujarat’s Kutch

Sep 01, 2025

Kutch (Gujarat) Sept 1, 2025 (ANI): In Gujarat’s drought-prone Kutch region, the ‘Jal Mandir Abhiyan’ is addressing water scarcity through community-driven efforts. Initiated in 2012 by the Kutch Fodder Fruit & Forest Development Trust, the campaign has constructed nearly 390 ponds with the support of villagers, NGOs, and students. In Surajpar village, elders Narayanbhai Kerai and Manjibhai Pindoriya, with geologist Jayesh Lalka’s guidance, built a community pond that now sustains people, cattle, and groundwater recharge. Similarly, Shishukunj International School in Bhuj created a pond near its campus, inspiring students with hands-on conservation learning. Once-barren land has transformed into green spaces attracting birds and wildlife. From farmers to children, Kutch is proving that united efforts can overcome climate challenges — one pond at a time.
