Community-led greywater revolution puts Gujarat village on national map
Nov 19, 2025
Across rural Gujarat, communities are writing powerful stories of sustainability – turning local ideas into lasting solutions for water security and sanitation. In Vedancha village, Banaskantha, that spirit has earned national recognition. The village has won the prestigious CIPS Innovation Award 2024–25 for its outstanding greywater management model under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural). With support from WASMO and the District Rural Development Agency, the Gram Panchayat built an effective treatment plant for just ₹5.55 lakh back in 2019. Today, it treats 200 kilo-litres of household wastewater – cleaning it for irrigation, groundwater recharge, and even livestock.
