Mar 22, 2022
New Delhi, Mar 22 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Assembly on March 21 unanimously passed resolution against Mekedatu Dam Project. While speaking on the dam project, AIADMK leader M Thambidurai on March 22 said that his party has supported the resolution in the State Assembly as it will affect the people. “Our party leaders and members supported that (state assembly's resolution on Mekedatu Dam). It's a unanimous sentiment of the people of Tamil Nadu. The state is facing a water problem at Cauvery basin. If they construct Mekedatu, it will affect the people,” said AIADMK leader M Thambidurai. “We are facing drinking water and irrigation problems. As far as Karnataka is concerned Supreme Court has given direction to not construct any dam without approval of concerned States-Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Karnataka Government announced Rs 1000 crore for construction which isn't correct,” added M Thambidurai. Karnataka government 'unilaterally' proceed with the Mekedatu Dam Project across the Cauvery River and prevailed upon the Centre to reject the proposal.
