New Delhi, August 6, 2026 (ANI): At Africa Day celebrations in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the deep historical, cultural and ideological ties between India and Africa, saying the two regions have been connected for millennia through trade, culture and shared experiences. He noted that both suffered under colonialism and stood together in the struggle for freedom and human dignity. Jaishankar emphasised that Mahatma Gandhi developed the principles of Satyagraha and non-violence in South Africa, which later inspired African leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah, Julius Nyerere and Nelson Mandela. Calling Africa Day an emotional occasion that reflects strong solidarity between India and Africa, he reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening contemporary partnerships and welcomed 50 African diplomats participating in a training programme in India.
