Early Diagnosis, Free Treatment: Gujarat Transforms Epilepsy Care Delivery
Nov 17, 2025
As India marked National Epilepsy Day on November 17, Gujarat stands out for its proactive health initiatives. The state government has strengthened neurological care with upgraded infrastructure, specialized staff, and accessible services — and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital is a prime example. With advanced neurology facilities and dedicated neuro-physicians, the hospital is playing a leading role in elevating epilepsy diagnosis and provides free treatment to patients. Across Gujarat, epilepsy care has expanded rapidly with EEG facilities available at 12 district and 10 sub-district hospitals. This strengthened network is reflected in rising treatment numbers with 1,26,459 in 2024–25, indicating growing awareness and improved access. As part of its mission to make neurological care broadly accessible, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital runs regular awareness camps, screening drives, and counselling sessions for people with epilepsy and their families. These efforts are helping to dismantle deep-rooted myths, promote early diagnosis, and ensure continuity of care. Thanks to timely intervention and sustained treatment, many patients can live full, productive lives — a testimony to Gujarat government’s effective integration of cutting-edge medical services with grassroots community engagement.
