Fuel price hike triggers inflation, PoGB locals blame Pakistan’s policies
Mar 25, 2026
PoGB, 25 March 2026: - Inflation is hitting people hard in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan. A steep hike in fuel prices has led to a surge in transport fares, making daily life even more difficult, with a cascading impact on prices of essential commodities. Locals allege that Pakistan continues to impose economic burdens without considering ground realities in the already marginalized region. Residents say Pakistan has failed to control inflation and instead continues to extract revenue from the region, further deepening the economic distress of ordinary people. Locals allege that decisions are imposed on the occupied region without consultation, dissent is often suppressed—leaving the common people to bear the brunt of rising costs and what they describe as continued economic exploitation by Pakistan.
