Gilgit Baltistan continues to reel under administrative apathy, people denied of water, education
Aug 10, 2021
Gilgit Baltistan, 10 August 2021: A blockade on a key highway in the illegally occupied Gilgit Baltistan is causing inconvenience to thousands but protesters are adamant about not leaving the site until their issues are addressed. They demand the authorities pay attention to the years of the water crisis in the region, which has only aggravated in the aftermath of the massive floods that wreaked havoc in the region. Increasing water demand is being managed by supplying a mixture of clean water and sewage. People say even the courts that anyway offer little hope for justice have proved inefficient in the years of their battles to receive what is absolutely essential to human survival. And this discriminatory policy of Islamabad is not restricted to one field or sphere but the people from all walks of life in Gilgit Baltistan are equally mistreated and denied their rights. Like these aspiring school girls who are being deprived of education. They have been regularly coming to schools only to see absent teachers. Authorities know it but the issue is not serious enough for them.
