Gujarat: GI Tag brings global recognition to Ambaji Marble, boosts industry and employment
Dec 18, 2025
The white marble from the Ambaji region in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district is widely known for its superior quality, strength, and natural shine. The Government of India has now granted Ambaji Marble a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag, giving it legal protection and preventing marble from other regions from being sold under the same name. This recognition is expected to boost demand, strengthen trade, and generate more employment for local communities involved in mining, processing, and craftsmanship. Ambaji Marble also carries strong religious and cultural value, having been used in prominent temples, including the famous Ambaji Temple. With the GI Tag, Ambaji Marble has become a protected identity of Gujarat, enhancing the region’s reputation and reinforcing its presence in national and global markets.
