Gujarat leads Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination drive
Mar 15, 2026
Gandhinagar (Gujarat): Gujarat is leading an intensive vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), with a statewide drive being conducted from March 1 to April 15. The initiative is part of the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), which aims to vaccinate cattle and other livestock and safeguard farmers from economic losses. Foot and Mouth Disease is a highly contagious viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals. It causes fever, mouth ulcers and excessive salivation, and can lead to reduced milk production and productivity. Under the programme, animals are identified through ear-tagging and their details are uploaded to the INAPH - Information Network for Animal Productivity and Health portal to monitor vaccination coverage and animal health.
