Gujarat Police’s VISWAS strengthens statewide surveillance

Sep 21, 2026

Location: Vadodara, Gujarat: - The Gujarat Police’s VISWAS – ‘Video Integration and State Wide Advanced Security’ project has built a statewide surveillance network, integrating CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras and drones for crime monitoring, traffic management and public safety. The network now covers nearly 100 cities with around 19,000 CCTV cameras, 10,000 body cameras and 92 drone systems. Through integrated traffic management, cameras detect violations using automatic number plate recognition, enabling e-challans. CCTV and drones also help track criminal and anti-social activity. The system also strengthens traffic and security monitoring during fairs, VVIP visits and major events, and provides enhanced surveillance especially during the festive season. With real-time surveillance linked to command centres, VISWAS has become Gujarat Police’s technology-enabled “third eye” for day-to-day policing.
