Gujarat upgrades Anganwadis with smart learning and nutrition initiatives

From smart classrooms to nutritious meals, Gujarat’s model Anganwadis are integrating early education, health and nutrition to support children’s holistic development. At this model centre in Rajkot, children learn language, mathematics and everyday skills through play, educational toys and smart TVs. Rajkot Municipal Corporation operates 364 Anganwadi centres across three zones. The centres focus on play-based learning, hygiene and nutrition. Children’s height, weight and nutritional status are monitored and recorded digitally, while parents of malnourished children also receive nutritional counselling. For children, the centres offer a mix of learning, play and nutritious food. Parents report improvements in their children’s learning and communication skills, with WhatsApp updates keeping them informed about classroom activities and progress. As Gujarat works to upgrade more than 10,000 centres into Smart Nested Learning Centres, the initiative seeks to bring early education, digital tools and nutrition support together, strengthening the foundation for children’s growth and development.
