Gujarat’s Modhera Moves from Solar Power to Green Mobility
Oct 08, 2026
Gujarat’s Modhera, known as the country’s first 24x7 solar-powered village, is now expanding its clean-energy journey into green mobility. Under Solar Village Modhera 2.0, residents are adopting electric vehicles supported by solar-powered charging infrastructure and battery storage. The wider project includes a 6 MW solar plant and a 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System. An EV charging station near the Sun Temple allows residents to charge vehicles using solar-generated power, helping reduce petrol and diesel expenses and carbon emissions. Solarisation is also transforming everyday life inside homes, powering appliances such as refrigerators, TVs, ACs, flour mills and washing machines. With electric bikes and scooters gaining acceptance, Modhera is demonstrating how solar power, battery storage and EV infrastructure can come together to support cleaner, more affordable and sustainable rural mobility.
