New Delhi, June 14 (ANI): After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave an ultimatum to protesting junior doctors to withdraw their strike, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan appealed the former to make the doctors’ strike a “prestige issue”, and said as a result of her ultimatum, the doctors got angry and went on strike. “I appeal to West Bengal Chief minister to not make this an issue of prestige. She gave the doctors an ultimatum; as a result they got angry and went on strike. Today, I will write to Mamata Banerjee and will also try to speak to her on this issue,” Dr Harsh Vardhan told ANI. The Health Minister had also met the Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS, and appealed them to hold only symbolic protests, and said that government is committed towards their safety. The junior doctors have been on strike since Tuesday over violence against their colleagues in West Bengal.
