India Maritime Week: VOC Port wins Green Visionary Award, signs major MoUs

Mumbai (India) The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, signed three major MoUs worth over 42,000 crore rupees with leading green energy players at the India Maritime Week 2025 in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The agreements include projects with Sembcorp’s Green Infra Renewable Energy Farms, ACME Green Hydrogen and Chemicals, and CGS Energy for large-scale green ammonia and hydrogen facilities. The event also saw the release of a sustainability case study on VOCPA by IIM Calcutta, commending the VOC port’s leadership in decarbonisation and green transformation among Indian ports. The VOC Port also got the 'Green Visionary' award during the event. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the MoU ceremony marks a major step towards India’s vision of becoming a leading maritime nation. He noted that the initiatives would position India as a global shipbuilding power. He said by 2047, India aims to be among the world’s top five shipbuilders.
