India’s first voter Shyam Saran Negi passes away at 106

Mandi (HP), Nov 05 (ANI): Independent India’s first voter, Shyam Saran Negi passed away on November 05. 106-year-old Negi breathed his last at his native place in Kalpa, HP. Negi had cast first vote in the independent country on October 23, 1951. He cast his vote for the 34th time on November 02 this year. PM Modi praised 106-year-old Negi for exercising his franchise for 34th time. Himachal Pradesh CM Jairam Thakur mourned Negi’s demise. He became the first voter of Indian democracy as general polls of country were conducted in Jan-Feb 1952. Negi has participated in every Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and all local bodies elections since 1951.
